New to Danceworks FAQ
– frequently asked question about dance in London
What will happen on my first visit?
When you visit Danceworks for the first time, you will be registered into our system at our Reception. You will be issued a ‘drop-in’ Membership Card which will be swiped-in to ensure a quick check-in for future visits. Daily membership fees are paid at Reception. If it is your first visit and it’s in a peak time, please allow an extra 10 minutes for registration.
Can I drop-in for class or do I book in advance?
We only take advance bookings for our Workshops. For classes on our Timetable we advise that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the class to secure a place. All classes are on a first come first served basis.
When and how do I pay for the class?
Class fees are paid directly to the teacher in class. Receptionists will inform you of exceptions to this. It’s helpful to have the correct money ready. There are ATM’s very nearby on the corner of Oxford and Balderton Streets.
How do I choose the right classes for me?
We offer a very wide variety of dance and fitness styles and levels at Danceworks and it can be hard to know what to try. When choosing a class consider these points:
- What are my goals (fitness, learn new skills, fun)?
- What level is appropriate for me?
- What days and times work into my schedule?
Then consult the Classes – Daily Schedule for class descriptions, levels and current class times. We are very happy to provide assistance. You can always ask one of our helpful and knowledgeable Reception staff, and you can book an appointment for a free personal consultation.
You can read more about our classes and teachers on our website.
What should I wear for class?
There is no specific dress code. If you’re trying a class for the first time, wear something comfortable and loose fitting you can move freely in. Feel free to ring or call in to ask Danceworks staff if you’re not sure what to wear – or if you have any other questions.
What are the benefits of being a Member?
There are many benefits to becoming a full member of Danceworks.
If you are a regular, it can work out a lot cheaper to be a full member.
You can also receive discounts at various retail dancewear shops including Bloch and Capezio, as well as with the practitioners in our renowned complementary therapy centre, Natureworks, on our first floor.
If I am a member, do I still pay for classes?
Yes, payment is required for each class attended. Class fees vary from £6 – £12 and can be found in the daily schedule.
Are there changing facilities & lockers at Danceworks?
We provide toilets, showers with shampoo & shower gel and hairdryers in the dry area. We do not supply towels or lockers. You will need to take your belongings to the studio at the start of your class.
Can I buy refreshments?
Yes, Danceworks has a snack bar in Reception where you can purchase hot & cold drinks and snacks. There is seating and internet access in our Members Lounge.
How does Danceworks assist those in the dance/entertainment industry?
Danceworks is a hub for industry professionals from choreographers to dancers to casting directors. We have notice boards in the building for auditions, and shows around London and the UK.
Does Danceworks have a gym?
No, but Danceworks offers a wide range of fitness classes dedicated to improving your physique and cardiovascular capabilities. We do not have cardio machines but we can provide weights for a deposit of £10 (or your Membership Card if you are a full member).
