Zandra always wanted to dance from very young but from the age of 8 was crippled with leg troubles. It wasn’t until she was 14 that she discovered Flamenco.

Within 3 months she no longer needed sticks to walk. Within 2 years she was dancing professionally in the Casa Pepe Flamenco house in London. From then on she never looked back. Her career has now spanned over 50 years. From London venues she toured Variety Theatres all over England.
In Spain she studied flamenco with the famous dancer La Quica and found herself working with very noted Flamenco artists. She was voted ‘Best Flamenco Dance Teacher’ by the Evening Standard ES Magazine in 1994.

Class Description

Just bring a pair of castanets with you. Initially I can bring a few pairs to lend to those who don’t yet have their own and want to try the class.
This is suitable for all levels from Beginners to Advanced. There is no dancing involved and so no need to dress in flamenco gear to attend class.. I teach the Art of Solo Castanet Playing Which is also known as Crotology.

We begin each class with finger exercises and then work on a musical piece until learned. The finger beats have rhythm names which are written out on paper so that we can easily follow the music. Each piece of music is chosen to practise the different techniques that used in castanet playing.

Students learn to play the castanets to a very high level… as a solo instrument and those who dance find that their castanet skills while dancing improve to a very advanced level too.
