Workshop description

Learn the authentic Indian folk-dance form of Garba with internationally renowned, Jigar Soni, of the Soni’s School of Garba Dance, the world’s biggest Garba school! Certified by the World Dance Council. With over 24 years of experience gained as an artist and teacher, Jigar Soni incorporates his knowledge to build on the core foundations of this dance form.

This 1.5 hour workshop is open to students of all levels and is an opportunity for dancers to broaden their experience and explore the foundations of Garba whilst developing technique in a new dance style.

Consisting of claps, clicks, bends & squats, this dance form focuses on footwork to the rhythm of Garba music. Students will be taught content from a structured syllabus consisting of 5 grades. This session is a great way to improve your balance and coordination whilst getting a full body workout!

Jigar started teaching Authentic Garba in 1998 with the vision of preserving and promoting the traditional form of this beautiful folk dance from Gujarat. Being
hugely popular in India over the last 20 years, SSGD have recently become more of a global platform as the largest Authentic Garba School, having a presence
within 27 cities in 9 countries worldwide and almost 2000 students learning from them every year.

Along with his brother Suhrad, Jigar has been awarded by numerous organisations including the UK government, where they received an award from the House of Commons for their significant contribution towards promoting Indian culture globally.

The Soni brothers have performed Authentic Garba on various Indian mainstream platforms, including the SaReGaMaPa Little Champs and Dus Ka Dum stage with the Bollywood megastar Salman Khan. They have been invited as celebrity contestants in popular reality TV shows and in 2019, alongside multiple performances, which include events hosted (and specially requested) by the Ambani family, they released their own song “Radha ne Shyam” with the renowned Queen of Garba, Falguni Pathak!
